The Vigil
Lanka Movement was formed by a group of ten activists on 10th of July 1996
who recognised the need for such reforms in Sri Lanka . They started out by
sending a questionnaire to reputed judges and acedemics in Australia, India,
Bangladesh. Response was collected and taken in to consideration at the first
Seminar, Judiciary for the 21st Century.
The Asian Legal Resource Centre (ALRC) / Asian
Human Rights Commission (AHRC), Hong Kong helped us in providing the sponsorships
needed for some of our projects.
TO this date Vigil Lanka Movement functions as an organisation committed
to judicial reforms but it does not categorise itself as a non-governmental
organisation (NGO).
